about

In the summer of 2010, I had the amazing opportunity to spend two months traveling around Europe. At one point during my stay in Venice, Italy, every church bell in the city began to sound simultaneously. For about three minutes I stood listening intently as different melodies, tonal centers, and rhythmic pulses morphed in and out of each other. After the last bell finally fell silent, I immediately began planning to write a short piece which might emulate some of these factors. Using a system of non-standard graphic notation I have crafted a piece which I feel captures the essence of the bells in Venice, while at the same time being an abstract representation of them.
