about

Written for a jazz-ish style instrumentation, this piece is the biggest I've written to date in terms of size of ensemble. It draws upon my love of jazz and chamber music, but ultimately becomes a weird mix of the two. One idea which is persistent in this piece is interruption. This idea was fairly easy to work with in the opening section and its return at the end, but became a bigger challenge in the slow, middle section. Additionally, the structuring of this piece occurs on both the macro and micro level. Starting with the overall A B A Coda form, each of those sections will usually break down into two or three smaller sections, which further breaks down into multiple phrases, which are comprised of multiple, related phrase members.
